Ex-teacher who says Noah's Ark killed dinosaurs loses board of education bid

Martha Lou Bruner lost the woman Republican primary runoff for a seat on the powerful Texas state panel of education on Thursday night, just two a few months following a near-outright victory that would have put the girl on the brink of having a say in what more than five million schoolchildren learn in classrooms and read in textbooks.
The 69-year-old Bruner has posted on Myspace claims that Barack Obama is a gay prostitute, climate change is a hoax concocted by Karl Marx and that Obama's healthcare overhaul was an orchestrated plot to wash 200 million people from the US population. The lady also wrote that the flood from the biblical story of Noah's Ark is what destroyed the dinosaurs, not a meteor as "concocted" by atheists.
In March, Bruner arrived within two percentage points of avoiding a runoff altogether. But Republican voters relocated this time to Keven Ellis, a local college board president in Lufkin who ran a popular campaign.
"I honestly believe in the primary - that was during the usa president primary, too - our race just got hidden, " said Ellis, who wouldn't criticize Bruner subsequent his victory and instead thanked her for the woman career as a teacher.
"Voters just may have selected a name, " Ellis said.
Ellis easily won with practically 60% of the vote. Bruner's fade was perhaps attached not only to increasing attention surrounding her since-deleted Facebook posts but also to an influential Teas Party group recently pulling out its endorsement. Grassroots The united states did not cite Bruner's conspiracy theories and perimeter political screeds on interpersonal media in taking again its support but rather her making inaccurate college data claims.
Bruner do not reply to an email seeking comment Tuesday night.
In an interview with Dallas tv set station WFAA in the weekend ahead of the runoff, she did not disavow her Facebook articles.
"When I wrote those things, I wasn't even intending to run for the state board of education. I had no idea that I would, " the lady said.
Ellis will be heavily favored to defeat his Democratic opponent, a college or university professor, in The fall of because the East Tx district is so staunchly conservative.
A few of Bruner's Facebooks posts were several years old and were saved by the Texas Freedom Network, a left-leaning watchdog of the state schooling board, before disappearing from her page.
"Texas escaped an education train damage tonight, " the group's president, Kathy Miller, said.
Bruner's election would have been stunning, even given that the Texas express board of education was chaired until 2011 by a creationist who attempted weakening evolution lessons in science classrooms. The 15-member panel next year is scheduled to take upward divisive revisions which could change what Texas student learn about science and sociable studies.
Curriculum battles on the Texas education board are often closely viewed over worries that the state's textbook buying strength influences what winds up in classrooms across the US. But publishing experts say technology now allows the industry to more readily customize textbooks for personal markets.

If you have a kid in elementary school, please ask to sit in on a couple classes before you write another post.Like torture to read your grammar and sentence structure.
